Marrakesh TO Merzouga
Your Moroccan adventure begins in Marrakech! You’ll be met upon arrival at Marrakech Menara Airport and conveniently transferred to your relaxing accommodation, whether it’s a hotel or a traditional riad in Marrakech.
Your 8-day adventure starts with an early morning departure from Marrakech. As you travel through the High Atlas mountains, you’ll cross the Tizi N’Tichka pass. Enjoy lunch at a restaurant with a stunning view of the historic Kasbah of Taourirt in Ouarzazate. In the afternoon, you’ll tackle another mountain pass, Tizi N’Tnifift, before reaching Agdez. The journey continues along the scenic Draa Valley, lined with palm trees, to Zagora for lunch. In the afternoon, you’ll visit the old Quranic Library and pottery workshops in Tamgroute before returning to Zagora for your overnight stay.
Refueled by breakfast, our adventure winds through the Draa Valley. We’ll stop for lunch in Alnif before pushing onward to the famed Erg Chebbi dunes near Merzouga. Along the way, we’ll encounter Rissani, once the Alaouite dynasty’s capital. Famed for its bustling souks, Rissani boasts the largest market in southern Morocco, overflowing with local crafts, food, and even live animals. After this cultural immersion, we’ll continue our journey to Merzouga’s Erg Chebbi dunes. Here, we’ll trade our car for camels and embark on a desert adventure. As the sun dips below the horizon, painting the sky in vibrant hues, we’ll stop to soak in the beauty before settling into a cozy Berber tent for the night, deep in the heart of the Sahara.
Your day will start with a sunrise breakfast, followed by a trip to Erfoud, a town known for its fossils and manufacturing. On the way to Tinjdad, you’ll stop to see a unique historical sight: an ancient underground irrigation system used by locals. After that, you’ll continue to Todra Gorges for lunch and a chance to explore the towering canyon walls, reaching over 200 meters high. In the afternoon, you can visit Tinghir, a city with a particularly interesting Jewish district.
This trip starts in Tinghir and winds its way through the Dades Valley, known for its dramatic scenery. You’ll also travel along the “Road of 1000 Kasbahs,” passing through villages and towns famous for their ancient mudbrick fortifications. Next stop is Kelaat Mgouna, the “rose city” where they hold an annual rose festival. After that, you’ll visit the charming palm tree-filled town of Skoura before arriving in Ouarzazate. The itinerary then takes you to Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO-listed fortified village with stunning kasbahs. This village has been a backdrop for many films. In Ait Ben Haddou, you’ll have lunch at a local restaurant with a view of the kasbah and enjoy some free time to explore the village, including a hike up a hill for panoramic views.
Our journey to Marrakech begins by traversing the stunning Ounila Valley. We’ll then conquer the legendary Tizi n’Tichka pass, where we can savor a delicious lunch at a local restaurant nestled amidst the awe-inspiring High Atlas Mountains. The panoramic landscapes throughout the drive promise to be truly unforgettable.
