Morocco New Years Eve

Day 1Marrakech - High Atlas mountains - Telouat Kasbah - Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah - Ouarzazate

Kick off your 8-day Moroccan desert adventure with a pick-up from right here in Marrakesh (or the airport if you’re just arriving). We’ll journey through the stunning High Atlas mountains, crossing the Tizi-N-Tichka pass. Along the way, you can soak in breathtaking panoramic views.

Next up, we’ll visit Telouet’s Kasbah, followed by the famous Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is a fortified town that’s been a backdrop for movies like Gladiator and Game of Thrones! Our final stop for the day is Ouarzazate, nicknamed “The Gateway to the Desert.” Dinner and a comfy hotel stay await!

Day 2 Ouarzazate - palm groves of Skoura - Amridil Kasbah - Rose valley-Dades Valley

Our Moroccan adventure starts in Ouarzazate! After breakfast, we’ll peek behind the scenes at the famous Atlas Studios, then delve into history at the impressive Taourirt Kasbah. Next, we’ll journey east to explore the Amridil Kasbah, nestled amidst Skoura’s palm groves.

Continuing on, we’ll reach Kalaa Magouna, renowned for its Rose Valley. While the Rose Festival might be in May, the town still offers a treasure trove of local products – perfumes, rosewater, oils, and even cosmetics – all infused with the valley’s fragrant roses.

Our adventure doesn’t stop there! We’ll wind through Boumalne Dades on our way to Dades Valley, marveling at the fascinating rock formations nicknamed “monkey fingers” and soaking in breathtaking panoramic views from a mountaintop vantage point. Finally, we’ll settle in for dinner and a restful night at a Boumalne Dades hotel.

Day 3Boumaine Dades - Todra Gorges -Erfoud -Merzouga Sahara

After breakfast, we’ll head to Todra Gorges, a dramatic canyon carved by the Todra River. Take in the towering red cliffs and explore the gorges at your own pace. Our journey continues through palm groves near Touroug and Tinjdad. Relax and enjoy lunch on the way. In the late afternoon, we arrive in Merzouga, a desert gateway to the Sahara. Here, you’ll embark on a camel trek across the sandy dunes. As the sun dips below the horizon, we’ll stop atop a high dune for a breathtaking sunset. Afterward, continue the trek to our desert camp. Under a blanket of stars, enjoy a traditional Berber dinner around a crackling campfire with drumming music. Spend the night camping under the vast desert sky.

Day 4Explore Merzouga region - Nomads - Khamlia - Merzouga lake - Erg Chebbi - palm grove

Your Moroccan desert adventure begins in Merzouga in the late afternoon. You’ll embark on a camel ride across the vast sands, stopping atop a high dune to witness a breathtaking desert sunset. The journey continues to a luxurious desert camp, where you can immerse yourself in the culture under a star-filled sky. Enjoy Berber music around a campfire, followed by a delicious dinner and a night under the stars.

Rise early to witness a magical sunrise over the desert landscape. After breakfast, you’ll ride camels back to Merzouga, where your exploration continues. The Merzouga region boasts a wealth of wonders – towering sand dunes, a hidden lake, abandoned mines, fossil sites, and lush oases – perfect for outdoor enthusiasts. The adventure begins with an off-road trip to a former eyeliner mine. You’ll then visit with nomads in their traditional tents, sipping Berber tea and learning about their way of life. Next, head to the village of Khamlia, where Gnaoua music and dance performances will enthrall you. Lunch is on your own at a local restaurant before continuing to a palm grove. The day concludes with a visit to Merzouga’s wild lake, also known as Flamingo Lake. Dinner and a comfortable stay at a hotel round out your unforgettable desert experience.

Day 5Merzouga Dunes - Erfoud - Midelt - cedars forest - Ifrane - Fes

Our day starts with a delicious breakfast, then we head out to Rissani, a town that was once the heart of the Tafilalet region. This bustling town still holds a major souk (market) on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays – a great place to soak up the local atmosphere. After exploring the market, we’ll visit a workshop in Erfoud where they create beautiful objects from petrified marble.

As we journey along the Ziz River, we’ll stop for a breathtaking panoramic view of the Ziz Valley. In Midelt, you’ll have plenty of time to enjoy a delicious lunch at your own pace. Next, we’ll venture into the cedar forest, where you might even spot some playful Barbary Macaques! Feel free to bring them a snack (approved foods only, of course).

Our final stop is the charming town of Ifrane, nicknamed “the Switzerland of Morocco” for its unique alpine architecture and cooler climate. After exploring Ifrane, we’ll take you back to your comfortable accommodation in Fes.

Day 6Exploring Fes

Immerse yourself in the wonders of Fes with a full day of exploration. Start with a visit to the University of Al Quaraouiyine, the oldest existing, continually operating higher educational institution in the world. Wander through the bustling medina, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and discover hidden gems like the Bou Inania Madrasa and the Nejjarine Fountain. After a traditional Moroccan lunch, continue your tour with a visit to the tanneries, where you can witness the ancient art of leather making. End the day with dinner and traditional entertainment at a local venue.

Day 7Fes - Meknes - Volubilis ruins - Chefchaouen

Our day begins with a delicious breakfast, followed by a trip to Meknes, a former Ismaili capital and one of Morocco’s imperial cities. We’ll delve into its history with visits to impressive landmarks like the Bab Al-Mansour gate, the Sahrij Souani water basin, the royal stables, the granary, and the Moulay Ismail Mausoleum.

After exploring Meknes, we’ll have free time for lunch. The adventure continues as we head 30 kilometers outside the city to discover the well-preserved Roman ruins of Volubilis, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here, we’ll be awestruck by ancient pillars, arches, and stunning mosaics scattered throughout the site. Our journey then takes us north through Ouazzane, leading us to the captivating Chefchaouen, nestled in the Rif Mountains. This enchanting city, also known as the Blue Pearl, is famous for its vibrant blue-washed houses and winding alleys. We’ll cap off the day by checking into a comfortable hotel for the night.

Wrapping up our exciting Moroccan adventure, we’ll depart for Tangier after breakfast.
