Marrakech International Airport
Your driver with private 4×4 will arrive after breakfast for the journey to the Atlantic coast and the vibrant medina town of Essaouira to stay in a stylish, traditional Riad. Essaouira is a friendly, small port town with art and craft, jewellery and music shops and is easy to navigate. Take a sunset Camel Trek along the wide, open beach.
Let’s head south of Essaouira to Sidi Kaouki, a laid-back fishing village known for its beautiful beaches and strong winds. Perfect for windsurfers and kitesurfers! Here, you can ride a camel along the beach, just like in Essaouira. There’s also a shrine dedicated to Sidi Kaouki, where a yearly festival is held. After exploring the village, grab a drink at a local cafe. Most restaurants and hostels line the town’s only street.
Next, we’ll drive on scenic secondary roads through argan fields to Agadir, a popular Berber seaside resort. Enjoy delicious Moroccan and international food here. We’ll visit the Agadir Kasbah, an old fortress on a hill with stunning ocean views. You can also shop for fig products and souvenirs at the many bazaars.
Our journey starts with a morning departure from Agadir. We head south to Tiznit, a town where the ocean and desert meet. Nestled in the Souss region, Tiznit offers a tranquil escape amidst argan, olive, and palm trees.
In Tiznit, we’ll visit the Kasbah, a historic fort renowned for its silver craftsmanship, a specialty that has made the town famous throughout Morocco.
Next, we continue our adventure along the stunning coastline, taking in paradisiacal beaches like Legzira and Mirleft, before arriving at Sidi Ifni. This charming old Spanish colony appears frozen in time. Here, we’ll explore the bustling medina.
Our journey starts in Sidi Ifni and takes us through Guelmim, a gateway city to Western Sahara known for its bustling camel markets held every week. Along the way, we’ll have a chance to relax on the stunning Atlantic beaches, including Playa Blanca and Tantan.
Off the beaten path, north of Tantan, lies the charming town of Tafraout. Nestled in a valley of colorful pink granite rocks, Tafraout is a visual treat. In 1985, Belgian artist Jean Verame added to the town’s unique character by painting giant blue and pink rocks – a must-see for any visitor. Spring brings another vibrant display with the blossoming of almond trees. Don’t forget to explore the area’s distinctive handicrafts while you’re there!
Saying goodbye to the almond and argan groves, the scenery will transform into classic southern Morocco. Imagine: stark desert mountains with strangely layered rock formations, and narrow valleys hemmed in by sheer cliffs, occasionally dotted with tiny oases. Even though the road is good for speeding, we’ll take breaks to admire and capture photos of this unique landscape. Our first stop will be Foum Zguid, a town on the edge of the desert and a key location for Morocco’s military.
This trip takes you on a classic Moroccan route, once used for the Paris-Dakar rally (but in the other direction!). We’ll head to the Iriki Desert, where you can admire the Chegaga dunes. While not as grand as Merzouga’s dunes, Chegaga is perfect for a shorter desert adventure. We’ll be greeted with Moroccan mint tea, and you can spend the rest of the afternoon enjoying the desert sunset. To add to the experience, consider riding camels to the camp – it’s definitely recommended!
Our trip starts in Chegaga and continues south to Mhamid, a town with a rich history as a trade stop between Morocco and Africa, located 100 kilometers from Zagora. We will then travel through a string of oases on our way to Zagora itself.
The modern town of Zagora was built during the French protectorate era, but the area around it has been inhabited for much longer. In fact, there’s a famous landmark – a sign that says “Timbuktu 52 days” – dating back to a Saadi expedition to Timbuktu in 1591. Zagora is surrounded by vast palm groves and sits beneath the imposing Jbel Zagora mountain.
Our journey back to Marrakech begins after we farewell the desert sands and traverse the Draa Valley, the country’s third-largest oasis. This valley snakes along the High Atlas Mountains’ watercourse, bursting forth occasionally into stunning oases teeming with palm trees and Berber settlements.
The return route takes us through the High Atlas via Tizi n’Tichka, North Africa’s highest road pass at a staggering 2,260 meters. The Atlas Mountains themselves are a majestic range showcasing breathtaking mountainous landscapes sprinkled with Berber villages. Our return journey will include a stop at the legendary fortified city, or Ksar, of Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Your Marrakech adventure kicks off with a delicious breakfast at your Riad. Fueled and ready to explore, you’ll join a friendly and knowledgeable local guide who will bring the city’s iconic landmarks to life. From the bustling Jemaa El-Fna Square to the historic Bahia Palace and Saadian Tombs, you’ll hear captivating stories behind each sight. You’ll also delve into the architectural wonders of Ben Youssef Madrassa and the Koutoubia Mosque.
After a satisfying lunch, the choice is yours! Immerse yourself in the modern beauty of the Majorelle Garden, or head back to your riad for some relaxation. As the afternoon melts into evening, take a leisurely stroll towards the vibrant Jemaa El-Fna Square. Perch yourself at a charming rooftop restaurant, sip a refreshing drink, and soak up the lively atmosphere. Witness the magic of a Marrakech sunset, and if your appetite allows, indulge in a delicious dinner before returning to your riad for a peaceful night’s sleep.
