Itinerary
Excursion to Ait Bougmez valley, Hiking Adventure

Day 1Marrakech – Demnate – Imin-ifri – Ait Boulli

The trip starts with an 8am departure from Marrakech to Demnate. We’ll stop at the small village of Imin-ifri to see its natural bridge and admire the amazing scenery. After the village of Tizi N’oubadou, you’ll get a chance to see dinosaur tracks. The journey continues on a mountain road until we reach the red valley of Ait Boulli. We’ll check into our cottage there. In the afternoon, there’s free time to explore the village and experience Berber life. The trip includes 5 hours of driving and finishes with an overnight stay in a Berber guest house.

Day 2Ait Boulli Valley – Tafenfant plateau – Arouss Valley

This is a challenging day hike, taking about 6 hours, that leads you to the Tafenfant plateau and down to the picturesque Arouss valley. Along the way, you’ll encounter nomadic shepherds with their flocks of goats and sheep. A delicious lunch will be prepared for you by our cook in the countryside.

Day 3Arouss Valley – Agouti – Aguerd N’ouzrou – Ait Imi

Our day begins with breakfast in Arouss. From there, we’ll trek to Agouti, a small Berber village nestled 700 meters up in the foothills of Mount Mgoun. Our journey continues to Idoukalen, where we’ll visit the communal attic of Sidi Chita. Along the way, we’ll stroll through scenic fields teeming with wheat, corn, apple trees, poplars, and walnut trees. Take your time to soak in the sights of villagers working the land and traditional grain mills. We’ll end the day with dinner and a stay overnight in the village of Ait Imi. This portion of the trip is a moderate hike, clocking in at around 4.5 hours.

Day 4Ait Imi – Adazene Mountains – Ait Hkem – Ait Ouchi Valley

The trip starts with a visit to the village of Ibaquallioune, known for its prehistoric remains. After that, there’s a 400-meter climb up Mount Adazen. Lunch is a picnic outdoors, followed by a one-hour walk to the village of Ait Ouchi. This village is located 2,000 meters above sea level and is part of the Happy Valley of Ait Bouguemez. Dinner and overnight stay are in Ait Ouchi.

Day 5Ait hkem – Ikhf N’ighir – Timit

This trek through the Ait Bouguemez Valley will immerse us in the daily routines of the local people, all while taking in breathtaking scenery. Our journey follows the valley path towards Iskatafene, eventually reaching the charming village of Ikhf N’ighir. A short climb leads us to a unique structure – a fortified communal attic and shrine dedicated to Sidi Moussa, a revered saint known for healing spiritual ailments. This remarkable building served a dual purpose: a secure storage for harvests, valuables, and important documents, and a place of spiritual significance. The reward at the top? Panoramic views of the majestic Ait Bouguemez Valley, aptly nicknamed the “happy valley.”

Day 6Timit – Azilal – Marrakech

After enjoying our time in Happy Valley, we will hit the road again, traveling back to Marrakech via Azilal. We’ll stop for lunch at a local restaurant along the way. In the afternoon, you’ll have free time to explore the maze-like souks of Marrakech’s old (medina).
