Imagine driving through the Dades Valley, a landscape sculpted by canyons and rivers, and stopping at the Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that’s been featured in movies like Gladiator and Game of Thrones. You might also camel trek through the golden dunes of Merzouga, spending a night under a blanket of stars in a traditional Berber camp.
Ouarzazate – Marrakech
This is the first-day itinerary of your 4-day Ouarzazate to Merzouga desert adventure. Your journey begins in Ouarzazate, where you’ll be picked up and whisked away to the awe-inspiring Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah. This UNESCO World Heritage Site has been a backdrop for countless movies, including Lawrence of Arabia, Gladiator, and Game of Thrones. After exploring the Kasbah and grabbing lunch in the village, you’ll continue your journey along the “Road of the Thousand Kasbahs” towards Dades Gorges. By evening, you’ll arrive at your comfortable accommodation for the night, a hotel or riad nestled within the Dades Gorges.
Fuel up for adventure! Day two of your desert expedition kicks off with a tasty breakfast. Next, you’ll head towards the Todra Gorges, where you can witness towering cliffs reaching a staggering 300 meters high. After soaking in this natural wonder, the journey continues to Merzouga. A seasoned camel guide and his trusty camels await to whisk you across the mesmerizing Merzouga dunes for about half an hour. The grand finale? A night spent beneath a blanket of stars, camping alongside the welcoming locals.
Your desert adventure continues! After enjoying breakfast at your desert camp and riding camels back to Merzouga, you’ll hit the road in a 4×4 vehicle for a day of exploring the vast Merzouga Desert.
This exciting day includes visiting a nomadic family living near the Moroccan-Algerian border. You’ll get a glimpse into their unique lifestyle and culture. Later, you’ll head to a village where generations of dark-skinned people, descendants of Sudanese slaves, have settled. Here, you can immerse yourself in their vibrant culture, listen to traditional Gnaoua music, and gain a deeper understanding of their way of life. To wrap up the day, you’ll spend the night comfortably at a hotel.
On the final day of your Ouarzazate to Merzouga desert adventure, you’ll fuel up with a tasty breakfast at your hotel. Then, it’s time to hit the road for Marrakech! The journey won’t be a straight shot, though. You’ll get to make some interesting stops before arriving in the vibrant city of Marrakech around 7 pm.
